Two beautiful stories today with Mr. Luigi.
Both of them on the subway,
When entering the N train, there was a poor old soul,
smelling of booze, talking to himself, ; a bit out of it. The people in the train, were kind, but
did not interact mostly noses in their phones.
Luigi is trained to mind his own business, and he mostly did
with this gentleman.
The man started becoming more agitated, swearing and
figiting with his hands.
Luigi just looked up into his face. And waited…
The gentleman looked down at Luigi- at first not ‘seeing’
the dog. Luigi did not change his
stare, he just waited. The man
looked at luigi and got calm, stopped swearing and looked at me and said
“hello, nice dog”. At which
I said Thank youJ
He and Luigi just looked at each other. Talking mind to mind, I suppose. He asked to pet Luigi, which he reached
down and patted his head. The
biggest, lucid grin came over his face.
His shoulders relaxed and his hand stopped shaking so much. He was back in reality
again.
He patted Luigi a few more times before we had to exit at
our stop. The man looked into my face, and said 'thank you'. Luigi did good.
